Second year of my life in Kent county of England already I used to make on the weekends long walking tours along the coast between various provincial towns. The variety of landscape around the coast makes shoreline so special. Often wild and dramatic, it also offers the cosiness of the sheltered coves and fishing harbours. The seaside towns have a unique atmosphere: it is something to do with the smell of the briny, the crunch of a pebble beach, traditional flower beds along the proms and beach huts with peeling paint in sugar-almond colours. Sea being an integral part of the British landscape greatly influenced the consciousness of Britons. Even 100 years ago it was difficult to meet a family in Britain which would not has a sailor. Trying to tell my story of the relationship between men and the sea I create to some extent a romanticized vision of it. Romantics Sea has always been primarily a symbol of freedom, as it represented a contrast between the land and the world of rules, laws and conventions. In addition the sea for people seemed to be a reflection of their rebellious romantics soul. Sea acted as a shelter from the bustle and a silent companion of lonely heroes. Sea happen to be a friend.
